The Paul Loves Weezer Project - Song 19 Long Time Sunshine

#Pinkerton

Leading up to the beginning of Weezer's Spring Tour, I'm going to feature PINKERTON era songs, including all 10 songs off the record, culminating on April 1st.

It's Weezer Day!!!

Myrtle Beach Here we Come!

For the nineteenth Weezer Song of the Day, the Pinkerton concludes with original track #10 Long Time Sunshine.  This song was specifically written to be the original ending to Pinkerton when it was Songs from the Black Hole.  Once the project transitioned to Pinkerton, Long Time Sunshine was still going to be track #10, until Butterfly was written and recorded.

LTS in its Pinkerton form was not released until the Pinkerton Deluxe edition in 2010:

and the first time LTS was ever played live in 2011:

I've seen Long Time Sunshine performed live 2 times.  According to Setlist.fm it has been played live only 9 times since 2011.  It was one of the real treats of the first Weezer Cruise to see this song played live.  Rivers also played it acoustic solo during his Alone show on Weezer Cruise II  It is doubtful Weezer will play it on their Spring mini-tour, but we can hope.

Long Time Sunshine is another beautiful, lyrical song featuring piano, with some percussion and bass guitar.  It was written by Rivers in early 1994 prior to the release of TBA.  He wrote it on his mother's piano in Connecticut.  These lyrics make me wonder how early he premeditated attending Harvard:
"Sometimes I wanna go back to school, an east coast college with some history."
Was this the first lyrical representation of Rivers' anxiety about the lonely life on the road?  The split of desires between wanting to be a rockstar, and at the same time wanting a 'normal' life makes sense for someone about to release a record on a major label.
"Sometimes it don't seem so bad to settle down with a good woman;  Leave this lonely life behind forever, and ever."

The vocals at the end are referred to as the Coda Mix.  This is simply genius!  It intertwines lyrics from other SFTBH songs in a medley technique with different voices overlapping.

Head Bobbing On Purpose!

What do you guys think?

Who's going to Myrtle Beach tonight?

Project Info:
So why did I create this blog?  To document my Weezer Song Project.  Over the next year, I am going to attempt to listen to every...EVERY Weezer song recorded.  All the album tracks and b-sides will be easy, but there are some unreleased songs that may or not be accessible.  Hopefully, the search (and destroy) will be fun to follow.  At the moment, the list has 213 songs!  My list includes You Gave Your Love to me Softly, Longtime SunshineTurn Me Round, Waiting on You, and Back to the Shack.  We learned early this year that a new Weezer record is on the way and we got to hear Back to the Shack twice on the Weezer Cruise II.

So here is the master list from Karl et al. on Weezerpedia!
I will soon publish my Google Doc Spreadsheet, which will document my progress.
Here is my Spotify playlist.

PLW Rater!  It's not quite Leonard Maltin, but it will work.
1 - Go get a beer...It's still a Weezer song, but it's a good time to rent a beer
2 - Head Bobber...The song causes at least moderate movement
3 - Rock it out...Banging of the head and the arm is in the air \m/
4 - Undone...No choice but to jump around
